September 2017

September had some fun highlights, a lot of school, and a whole lotta Willy Wonka rehearsals!

We were invited to an elaborate Old West mystery party.  Kylen was the sheriff, and Greg was a stagecoach driver!

Kylen came up with this idea, took a pic after mowing, and added a caption.

We attended a high school graduation for an awesome dude.

We were planning to skip Silverwood this year, but a very nice gal blessed us with free tickets on the last day.  And it just so happened to be a beautiful day.

The soup was AMAZING.  Some of the tastiest soup I've had.

Kylen talking to my brother.  We were able to get an extra ticket for him to join us!

We got in an old time photo shoot.

I'm in red, my brother's on one side, and Kylen's on the other.  :)

Chinese Lantern Festival

We went to the Chinese Lantern Festival on Friday evening.  It runs for five consecutive weeks, and this was the second week.  The light displays are beautiful!  Everything is outside, but we were blessed to have a warm evening.  In fact, we didn't need coats.  We were there 2 1/2 hours, from 7 until 9:30 p.m.  I recommend purchasing tickets ahead and going to will call.  The ticket line was HUGE.

The bright colors, especially the reds and greens, reminded me of Christmas.  I told Greg I want a bunch for our yard in December.  ;)  Not happening.  They probably cost a fortune, and where would we store them the rest of the year??

There were two one hour shows, one at 7 and one at 9.  We went to the first show, but I wish we'd waited until the second.  Ours was very crowded, and we ended up standing far off to the side.  (The second show had fewer people.)  There aren't many benches, so come early or be prepared to sit on the ground!

We had dinner at 8.  The meal is themed around a different region each week.  This week was inspired by the Shandong Region.  It included sea cucumber soup with a pork meatball and noodles, fried rice; fried sweet and sour carp with sweet potato, onion, and corn hash; and chopped apples with toffee crumble.  It was our first time to eat sea cucumber.  Greg wasn't brave enough, but Kylen and I were!  It was OK, but mine was crunchy inside?  Hmmmm . . . We also ordered two kinds of hot tea.

After dinner, we took a leisurely stroll around the rest of the loop.  :)

Can you see Greg's profile below?  I was trying to get him and Kylen both, but Kylen was being impatient.  I wish I had been more insistent.  It would have been even neater with both of them.

We'd like to go again next year.  :)  Of course, I had to count this as part of school: art appreciation, but it would also be great for social studies or geography.

Mt. Spokane 2014

We finally made it to the top of Mt. Spokane!  This is an annual outing I thought we might miss, but we've had unseasonably warm weather and finally got a quiet weekend.  Greg spent the Saturday before last catching up on lawn work, but the following day we drove up and spent several hours there with good friends.  We could not have asked for more ideal conditions.  Almost no bugs (unlike this trip two years ago) and no wind.  It's wasn't too warm or too hot, not many people.  Best of all, the colors were turning!  I don't think we've ever been up there late enough to see fall on the mountain.  I savored every single second from the drive up and being there to the drive back down.  I've decided this is when I want to go every year.

Passing the fields of Green Bluff in route to Mt. Spokane.

 Look at those colors!

Seeing our own city through the viewfinder.

Kylen and his friend enjoying the novelty of being on top of the world.

Oh!  Are you taking my picture?!

This is a spot Kylen loves.  See a pic of him in the exact same place last year. He looks older!

I asked Greg to stop on the way down so I could grab a quick shot.  I would have loved for him to stop every few seconds, but that just ain't reasonable, now is it?!  :-)
